Welcome to Temperance House
Temperance House provides luxury self catering accommodation in Port Charlotte, a beautiful conservation village of white-washed terraces and cottages by the shores of Lochindaal on the famous Hebridean island of Islay. Referred to as the “Queen of the Hebrides”, Islay is probably best known for its prized export, fine malt whisky.
There are many other attractions that regular visitors are also very familiar with such as its wild and remote scenery, stunning yet uncrowded beaches, world class golf course, excellent bird-watching sites and a resurgent Gaelic language and music scene.
Local amenities include a Post Office/shop, two hotels with bars, a range of dining options and the Museum of Islay Life. Bicycle hire is available from our next door neighbours.
Temperance House takes its name from the Temperance Hotel which was located in the building last century. The hotel was later converted into a family home with a Bakery on the ground floor. In 2011 we completed a full refurbishment and modernisation of the property which is now divided into two high standard self-catering properties providing luxury accommodation in the centre of the village, just opposite the Port Charlotte Hotel.
